Creating A Safe Space for Mothers
A failed Initiative

While employed at one of the biggest corporations in Bangladesh, I witnessed how influential brands could address significant societal issues such as autism awareness, language rights, cybercrime, or sexual harassment. I seized the opportunity to work on these issues. This year, while away from my home country, I wanted to do something special to assist mothers in celebrating Mother's Day.
𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐡 face a significant challenge as there are almost no spaces available for them to feed their children. Even shopping malls, superstores, and offices lack proper facilities for nursing mothers. This leaves many mothers with no other option but to stay at home without a safe and private space to breastfeed their babies, causing them to miss out on work and social activities.
I had an idea to partner with a big retail chain to create a space for breastfeeding mothers. The idea is simple- 𝐚 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥, 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦 made with cards, plastic boards, or even cloths; that can be easily set up when needed. This 4ft by 4ft space will have a chair, a small table, and necessary essentials like tissues and water. By placing it near the baby products section, the retail chain can 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬. Moreover, this will show that they care about families.
The plan was to create foldable rooms that could be sold to stores and offices. These rooms would make it easier for mothers to breastfeed in public spaces all over the country. Unfortunately, the project faced unexpected difficulties and could not be completed. Nevertheless, I still believe in the idea. It has the potential to make life a little easier for mothers and promote family-friendly business practices. It's not just about convenience; it's about creating a supportive environment for families.
𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫'𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲 to all the wonderful moms out there. Let's keep pushing for positive change, one small step at a time.
